2018 Range Rover Velar Preview

Land Rover prepares a 2018 Range Rover Velar SVR 550 hp to attack Mercedes-AMG and BMW M.

Before Christmas, we had the opportunity to get to know the most sporty and exclusive range of Jaguar and Land Rover, its Special Vehicle Operations section. Our test in Monza of a Range Rover Sport SVR not only gave us the chance to know that Land Rover will launch sports versions of any product it deems appropriate. The key is none other than the V8 engine supercharged by a compressor that would equip the sportier version of the 2018 Range Rover Velar.

A Land Rover to fight with Mercedes-AMG and BMW M

The idea of a 2018 Range Rover Velar SVR not only is not outlandish, but is probably the most logical in the evolution of the Velar range, and in the strategy of Special Vehicle Operations. The Range Rover Velar convinced us during our last test by many aspects, by its design, by the technological and modern image that oozes in its lines, and in what we see on its dashboard. It is an agile SUV on the road and even being, above all, an SUV, it more than meets the asphalt.

Its SVR version would arrive to offer a robust and sporty vehicle, which even being focused on the road, remains a Land Rover on unpaved tracks. Although, we insist, do not look for a very radical off-road approach.

The idea of a 2018 Range Rover Velar SVR, whose camouflaged mules, have already been seen at the Nürburgring and near the headquarters of Land Rover in the UK, would make a lot of sense to rival Mercedes-AMG and BMW M

Everything points to that Range Rover Velar SVR is getting closer, especially after, as published Autocar magazine these days, have been hunted several mules rolling at the Nürburgring, and in England, very close to the headquarters of Land Rover. The British already give, even, a date of launching, in October.

Under the hood, we would find one of the most determining aspects when purchasing an SVR, a V8 engine supercharged by a compressor. A solution that we liked for its forcefulness, but above all for the progressiveness it offers and its sound, which is not comparable to what we find in most alternatives that exist in the market, with supercharged turbo engines.

We can assume that at least 550 HP of power will be around. We know that this engine can far exceed those figures, as we have seen in other models of Jaguar and Land Rover.

The Mercedes-AMG GLE and the BMW X5 M

Between his rivals, we would be mainly to the Mercedes-AMG and more specifically to the Mercedes-AMG GLE 63. The V8 turbo motor from 557 CB power starts in $162,500 and $171,500 for the Mercedes-AMG GLE 63 Coupé.

It would also be comparable with the BMW X5 M that starts at $172,300 with 575 HP of power and V8 engine.
